Swiss Cotton Fabrics / Swiss Cotton Fabric
Heirloom sewing has long been associated with using Swiss Cotton fabrics for the project. Whether it is a beautiful Christening gown, baby blessing gown, new baby garment or a lovely Ladies blouse, the Swiss cotton fabric will give you the desired heirloom look you are striving for. Delicate Stitches by Sylvia carries a variety of Swiss batiste from Spechler-Vogel Co., Bear Threads, LTD or Capitol Imports. These Swiss cotton fabrics come in various weights, all having their own special purpose for the project at hand. The Swiss cotton fabric comes in either 45" wide or 58" wide with a high thread count, exceptional quality cotton fiber used to give a beautiful sheen to the fabric. The Swiss cotton fabric comes in white, ecru, and soft pastels. When sewing with the Swiss cotton fabrics, a high quality 80 wt. thread should be used if sewing lace work on the machine. This fine sewing thread should be placed in the bobbin and top threading of the machine. Then for garment construction with the Swiss Cotton fabrics, a good quality 50 wt. sewing thread is recommended. If a hand embroidery design is desired on the Swiss cotton fabric, a light spray of Spray Starch will put a barrier between the fabric and the tracing pencil you are using to transfer the design. The Swiss Cotton fabric will wash beautifully but does require a bit of common sense and care.
